What do people want from an east Manchester Community website?

A few weeks ago I had a meeting with a few folk who have been involved with www.eastserve.com for a number of years, including someone who had been involved with eastserve.com from its initial conception.

Not surprisingly they knew more about the history of www.eastserve.com than I did.

In the inbetween years there's been a number of changes, some of those will be for the better, some for the worse.

But now that MCIN has taken over the management of the site what would local people want to see?

So where do we go now?

I know that the discussion forums and lack of local flavour are key concerns.

What else do people want to see?

Do people see a future for a website that serves the people of east Manchester?

It would be great to get people together, whether that's online or in the real world, to chat and share ideas.

Please leave your comments here, use the discussion forums, phone 0161 230 1430, email david@mcin.net or call in to see me at The Grange.

A community website cannot run without the support and involvement of its local community.

how about a talent page? to show off local talent ,be it uploading a video, a picture, a story or an achievment of somekind?

Hi David I know your not responsable for the connection side of Eastserve, and the only reason I have kept with them is because its something I was really exceited about, having our own local server, and I remember when we won the funding from wired up communities, but its really frustrating when its hit and miss if you get on at all, I very often have to go on someone elses computer to pick up my email, and I dont even try anymore to get on it on a saturday, (well I do but I know its going to be no use) I know loads of people who have gone with another server for that reason alone. so please could you help. Thanks Elaine

Eastserves website was run down on purpose to get rid of it,It was to costly to run as far as having a contents manager ,but the people who were actually posting to keep the site running were not told anything? "Nothing changes" But as far as getting the forum running again i dont hold any hopes, because eastserve had a great community feel to the contents and they used to have monthly meetings "When it suited the council and the people who wanted something from the community" MCC wanted the community to make the council look cool at the time ,but they lost interest as soon as they got the grants and everything. The usual political moves and wrangles to make everybody look great and the usual pat on the backs to show everybody how well they have all done...Sorry but eastserve forum is lost to the past you guys.

Ace...........But i hope that you can turn things around, best of luck

a community working together can make the best of each other and their area. it would be a good idea to regenerate interest and contribution to the eastserve website for REAL local people andnot just people who work here.

the online crime reporting tool should be brought back!
