Blog Action Day 2008

A colleague here at MCIN pointed out that today, October 15th, is Blog Action Day.

The idea of Blog Action Day is that "thousands of bloggers will unite to discuss a single issue - poverty.
We aim to raise awareness, initiate action and to shake the web!"

BBC Introduction to Journalism Sessions

Here are some pictures from the final day of the BBC Introduction to Journalism Sessions held at the BBC building on Oxford Road.

Jim Clarke (pictured below with Mohamad) led the sessions and on the final day gave everyone the opportunity to look around the empty North West Tonight studios and imagine what it would be like to be a camera person or the next Gordon Burns.

What do people want from an east Manchester Community website?

A few weeks ago I had a meeting with a few folk who have been involved with www.eastserve.com for a number of years, including someone who had been involved with eastserve.com from its initial conception.

Not surprisingly they knew more about the history of www.eastserve.com than I did.

In the inbetween years there's been a number of changes, some of those will be for the better, some for the worse.

But now that MCIN has taken over the management of the site what would local people want to see?

So where do we go now?

Whilst having lunch at the cafe here at the Grange this afternoon I started chatting to a woman who was crocheting a handbag out of old carrier bags.This was a great form of recycling and the different bags made different patterns.

It's been a busy week for East Manchester Community Reporters.On Monday there was the successful "Grow Your Own" event at the Grange and on Tuesday and Wednesday there was a visit to the BBC.Both stories were covered by the Advertiser, see pictures below.Thanks to Nicole and Annette at The Advertiser.

Community Reporters Visit the BBC

A group of Community Reporters, including a number from East Manchester, visited the BBC last week and went behind the scenes of North West Tonight: The BBC's flagship regional news programme for the North West.Following a tour of the BBC newsroom the group got to watch the programme going out live from the gallery and the studio floor.Presenter Gordon Burns stayed behind after the show to talk the group through his role as a presenter.
